On 6th January, 1916, 12th Royal Fusiliers of 17 Brigade, 24th Division left their camp at Ouderdom and moved into the front line trenches near Hell Fire Corner in the Ypres salient where they remained until 13th January. The Battalion Diary records that on 9th January their machine-guns disrupted an enemy working party and that a German wiring party was prevented from doing their task by rifle grenades. It was not however without cost to 12th Royal Fusiliers who had 3 men were killed during the course of the day, including Robert Medlen. |
